The ECS varsity football team is back, in a new league, and filled with more players than ever. With all the new, raw talent potential, the team couldn’t have asked for a better leader than that of head coach Dave Thomas.
Unlike many coaches, Mr. Thomas focuses on improving skills and fellowship among the team mates, than just doing whatever it takes to win. Instead, he focuses on making each player the best he can be. He says only what is needed for the players to motivate themselves. He does not try to “over force” winning or working over the limit.
This does not; however, mean that the team will not have wins this season. More players equals more complex, skilled plays, which, when added to the better playing that will result, could, and very well may, end up with wins.
Derek Baete, defensive and offensive lineman for the team, responded to the question of what most excited him for the new season in saying, “More players, I think, is the most exciting thing to me. This means more plays than we’ve been able to do in the past, which not only means higher chance of wins, but also improvement on the player’s end.”
